2007 ~ Year of the Boar
That's BOAR not BORE (I hope). The year began as usual, Ryan working all night New Year's Eve. January is always the month of new projects. Every client {understandably} wants to begin new projects so they can see some ROI by the 3rd or 4th quarter. Needless to say, I'm knee deep in several new and exciting projects.
Matt's Models is going multimedia this year, with RSS feeds, podcasts, and a new site for the Sony PSP. The expectation is that these new tools will help expand the reach of the site to new markets. One of the most interesting multimedia projects I built for that site is Matt's Models TV - a web-based TV station. It broadcasts video clips 24/7 based on a scheduling and administration system I built to manage the flash clips.
Matt contracted my webmaster services for several new sites this year, including a new free site - Bookmark Porn. Its a TGP site (thumbnail gallery post), which gives away free photos in the hopes of generating revenue. The first version of the site was built several years ago and never generated any real traffic or revenue. Matt wanted that to change. There are thousands of TGPs on the Internet, so my first challenge was to create a unique interface that overcomes the problems surfers have with traditional tgps (like The Hun). Many TGPs have fake links that bring you to other TGPs, rather than bringing you to the photo you clicked (try a few of the links on this site for an example - Get Porn). This deceptive practice is a standard traffic trading method, and in my opinion, a very bad way to build traffic loyalty. I wanted to keep all the traffic on-site, so I used Javascript to display & swap the photos - no page refreshing needed! The results have been amazing - 200 to 1 conversion compared to typical TGPs that have 5,000 to 1 conversion (or worse).
Another site I built this year for Matt is a new hardcore video site - Matt's X-Rated. These videos are shot by a friend of Matt's who had over 2,000 scenes sitting in storage and not generating revenue. I decided to avoid the standard generic porn site tour and instead used Flash video trailers to show the available content. This new technique has resulted in extremely good conversion rates of 30 to 1 or better.
I also built a site for a new company shooting costume content called CosPlay Divas. Very cool and unique videos that I think will do well.
The rest of my time has been spent working a few smaller projects, like server administration for Nutage, and a new monitoring system that watches all the sites under my care.
