Project Management Its almost not worth mentioning this skill, since a webmaster is useless if he doesn't know how to effectively manage a project. I've been managing projects for as long as I've been building sites, whether I'm the only person on the project or I'm working with a team of 20. Project management is simply figuring out what needs to be done and scheduling it. Of course it helps to make sure everything gets done on time and within the budget. When I worked at Brio Advertising in 2001, I was asked several times to step in as project manager during staff changes. My logic-based IT skills were ideally suited to managing the day-to-day operations of the team. Every morning before the crew got to work I'd go over each project and calculate its actual progress against the estimates. Projects that were ahead or behind schedule were adjusted accordingly. At Brio I was also given the opportunity to manage a large non-technical event for Ford Motor Company. One of their non-profit departments was responsible for donating tools, training and equipment to high school auto shops. Brio was hired to plan the opening ceremonies of these training facilities. My task for this client was to plan, schedule and execute the opening ceremony for two facilities, a high school in Virginia and a women's prison just south of Miami. I spent only a few hours a week coordinating all the pieces of this huge puzzle and everything fell into place perfectly. The media coverage was excellent and Ford was more than pleased. I guess all of this is just to say that for me Project Management is a no-brainer. I rarely work alone on a project. The effort and feedback of other team members is what makes a project go from good to great, so managing the project effectively is just part of my job.
