Programming There's very few things in Information Technology that I don't know how to do. However, my primary skill and focus is programming. Programming is what makes the world-wide-web go 'round. A web designer that doesn't know how to program is at the mercy of the off-the-shelf tools he's using to do his work. Conversely, a well-rounded programmer can do virtually anything a client dreams up. My main programming language is PHP. Its an open source languange and has the largest user group of any web-based platform. This translates into an unlimited supply of support, examples, tutorials, and free code. I typically write all of my code from scratch, so that I know what each line is supposed to do, but its nice to know that in a jam I can find code for pretty much any task that comes across my desk. I've been programming for over 20 years. Throughout this time I've learned several languages. The ones I use on a daily basis are Javascript - for browser-side actions; CSS - for customizing the look of my sites; PHP - for database manipulation and user interface development; and Perl - for server engagement. You could also add HTML, but that's like having to mention that I speak English. |
